Hampshire v Sussex 20/06/2010 (posted 22/06/10)
Mens A (Won 20 v 24)
Paul Smith and Chris Dolding

The result we have been waiting for all season finally happened against Hampshire away with a 24 - 20 win. Things started off well and we went into a 11 - 9 lead and Hampshire never really caught up with us, staying 4 frames ahead.

I would like to thank all the lads who turned up and played well. Also a big thank you to the Hampshire lads for a good game and a nice spacious venue with good tables.

The man of the match goes to Paul Smith and Chris Dolding both with a solid 4 out of 4 performance.

I hope we can act on this win and carry it on into the next game at home to surrey. well done lads!!

Mens B (Lost 27 v 17)

Away to Hampshire on father's day all teams were short of players so many thanks to those who made the trip and well played to those who came up from the c team at short notice This week's venue was incomparable with London and thanks go out to Hampshire for making it a great match day The day started with Martin Vincent winning the first frame for us before Hants took the next 2. Paul Stanley drew us back level 2-2 then Hants pulled away winning next 3 with john Baxter being dished 5-2 Andy Healey immediately dished back to win the first of his two frames of the day 5-3

Over the next 9 frames Hants pulled out to lead to 12-5 during which Will Ashman (joint man of match) won a marathon frame his first of all 4 on the day. Sussex then struck with back to back dishes first Justin Heath (joint man of match) 4 from 4) followed swiftly by Will Ashman to make it (12-7)

Over the next few frames it was nip & tuck with both Shaun Cottingham and Jason Luxford winning their first frames for the B team as we pulled back to 18-15. Unfortunately though yet again a poor final set of 11 frames saw us only win 2 of them to finish the day 27-17.

If I may I would like to dedicate this match to my Nan who passed away Sunday evening, she was always a very positive influence in my life.

Mens C (Lost 27 v 17)
Martin Portelli

The 1st thing I would like to say is thank you for all my players who were able to play today.

The match started with me sending up 3 players to the B team,& 6 new players, but full credit to Des Morley he came through & I had a starting 11.

We had a lot of new players today, so I was not too sure what to expect ,Emma sones & Kevin Sones both played well & got 1-4,Thomas Bruce 0-4 but you played well ,Alan Hitchon 3-4 well done mate .Man of the match goes to Martin Portelli 4-4 ( pictured )Paul Hicks Had a day to forget ,But head up Paul. John Pack 3-4. .We also had Sam Morley who only scored 1-4 but he played well .Vinnie 1-4 who dished on 3rd frame, good on you Vinnie, & Alan Hitchman 2—4. I would have to say no one in the team played bad we did have our chances ,but with so many new players we did well !!!

Final Score 27-17

Ladies (Lost 25 v 19)
Sue Woods

Player of the match Sue Woods not only did she win 3 from 4 but she is a consistent, reliable member of the team, well done.

Final score away to Hampshire was 25 19 not the win we wanted but still a good result, thank you ladies for making the journey to Portsmouth, well played to you all enjoy the month off and I will see you all in August home at last !

Juniors (TBC)

London v Sussex 06/06/2010 (posted 08/06/10)
Mens A (Lost 29 v 15)

First of all I would like to thank all the lads who made the journey to London, which isn’t the best venue being very hot and cramped.

Again Sussex never really got started and not taking most of our chances, where as London did. there was a lot of frames that could of gone our way but didn’t. the score line could have been a lot different but as I said we never really got going. my man of the match goes to Paul Smith with a 3 out of 4. well done mate!

With the next game just a couple of weeks away I hope we can start improving and get a win under our belt.

Mens B (Lost 35 v 9)

Mens C (Lost 23 v 21)
Richie Hamill

If we had took our chances then we would have won this match, we are getting there, but seem to struggle to cross the finish line. The 1st 22 games were quite tight with London taking a 13-9 lead. We let a few frame slip past us with London taking the win but a good finish from Sussex, taking the last 7 frames on the trot. Man of the match goes again to Richie Hamill 4-4, with John Pack & Brett Robertson both taking 3-4. New player Alex Sampson got 2-4.

Final Score 23-21

Ladies (Lost 27 v 17)
Kara Bussell

We struggled to get a team and on the day we ended up with just 10 so it was hard from the start, however everyone pulled out the stops to keep it neck and neck until the last quarter, final score 17 to Sussex. I would like to thank all the ladies who went to great efforts to attend the match, it isn’t the best venue and it was very hot and cramped so thank you.

Player of the match goes to Kara who played in the 1st 11 for the first time this season and played some excellent pool winning 3 from 4 well done.

Juniors (Lost 25 v 19)

Sussex v Kent 16/05/2010 (posted 18/05/10)
Mens A (Drew 22 v 22)

Mens B (Drew 22 v 22)
B Team

A changed team saw 6 new players and they all settled in nicely as we won the first two frames putting us in front for the first time this season and we lead after first eleven frames 8-3.

This good start was maintained right through the afternoon with sussex racing in to a 14/8 lead at half way then one away from victory after 33 frames 21-12

Next can only be described as unbelievable somehow through some bad luck bad shots and some great kent play they managed to win ten of the last 11 frames to draw the day 22-22

well done to kent for a great fun day of pool which apart from the player mix up passed in great sprit and well done also to my 5 men of the match (ANDY HEALEY.JUSTIN HEATH,WILL ASHMAN,CLAUDIO FOSCHINI, AARON SMITH)it was impossible to choose any one as all played thier parts in a great day winning 3 from 4.

Look forward to seeing you all next game and getting ourselves over the winning line.

Mens C (Lost 19 v 25)
Richie Hamill

We had a lot of changes for this match with 5 new players in this team.

We started great with us going into a 6-2 lead then we allowed Kent to pull back a few frames & then it went to 7-6. We kept the pressure on for the next few frames & then we went to 13-11 up.

Then it went bad we started to lose a few frames then we lost more frames, before we knew what was going on we were 19-14 down. Unfortunately the damage was done Sussex pulled back a few more frames but not enough to win the match.

This was the strongest squad that I have had for the last 2 years & when we were winning Sussex were very loud but when we started to lose a few frames we lost our voice & let our heads down, a great shame.

Man of the match goes to Richie Hamill who scored 3-4 well done a very good solid performance, Dave Rogers who scored 3-4 what a black on his 2nd frame quality, good to see Jamie Thomas back with2-4, the rest of the team played well apart from captain who seemed to lose the ability to play pool 1-4 very bad!!!!

On a good note I am very happy with this squad & I believe we can move forward to make the C team a strong contender, for the remainder of the matches let’s keep the support up ,with a loud voice & good support

Final Score 19-25

Look forward to seeing all my players on the next match

Ladies (Lost 14 v 30)

The Ladies were really up for a good day of pool, we were back at our home venue which had a great atmosphere due to tables being relocated into main room. As for all the matches this season we had a full team plus reserves everyone except Kara and Danielle got the chance to play 4 frames and they all played really well knowing full well it was going to be a hard day, Debbi came out top with the most number of winning frames (3 from 4), though I feel Laura Boyle played the best on the day unfortunately she didn’t get the roll of the table on her side however player of the match goes to her, well done Laura it’s your first season and you’re doing really well keep it up! Next two months we are away to London and Hampshire so here is to hoping we can keep the momentum going, well done Ladies it might not have been a win but a great result all the same!

Juniors (Lost 13 v 31)
Dan Booker Bradley Humphrey

Player of the Match for today is shared by Dan Booker and Bradley Humphrey. Although we did not have a great day at Sussex with a loss of 31-13, both Dan and Bradley played extremely well winning all four of their frames each. Dan Plays for in Brighton and Hove League and has been playing county since 2007. I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate him on getting England trials last season. Bradley is in his second year of county and plays pool at Newhaven Con Club. A good day all in all, not a great result but we are looking forward to next month.

Berkshire v Sussex 11/04/2010 (posted 15/04/10)
Mens A (Lost 31 v 13)

Mens B (Drew 22 v 22)
Paul Stanley

Away trip to Berkshire and well played everyone in battling sussex b to an excellent draw. Though being behind after loosing the first 2 frames we were always in touching distance over first ten frames, dropping to 13 9 then 16 10 before what is becoming a typical team comeback began.

A great 3rd quarter saw us draw level 16 each for the first time only to drop next three frames 19 16. Paul Stanley (man of the match) got us level again at twenty each wining his 4th frame.

Next two frames sussex should of won but managed to throw away only for Berkshire to repay the favour in the final two. May I thank Steve (Berkshire captain) for a great day and missing that final black !!!!

Man of match
Paul Stanley 4 from 4
Also well played
Chris Dolding 3 from 4
Gary Knapper 3 from 4

Mens C (Lost 24 v 20)
C Team

We were a little short of players for the start of this match, but come the end of match we had full squad.

We did not get of to the best start with Sussex going 10-1 down, from then we started to pull some frames back. Our best pool came in the last session with Sussex taking most of the frames, unfortunately Berkshire had won the match ,but Sussex did well to make the score respectful.

From the ladies we had Danilla Fuller who played great but could not get past the finish line. Man of the match goes to Arron Smith 4-4 solid performance Claudio also picked up 3-4 Also 5 other players scored 2-4. We also had Chris Mordaunt from juniors who was unlucky not to get on score sheet.

We are starting to find some form now & Looking forward to next match which is at home. Final score 24-20

Ladies (Won 15 v 29)

An excellent day all round! The Sussex ladies were all on form with a full team and 2 reserves, the match started very close with only a frame or two difference but once the Sussex ladies found their feet there was no stopping them and by the last 11 they were ahead and running to the finishing post the final score was 15 to 29 a brilliant first win for Sussex Ladies and well deserved. Not the best of days venue wise though what with staffing problems at Riley’s but I would like to say the manager was very apologetic and did his best to keep up with food and drink orders, also it was hard work for the ladies to keep track of games as we were playing on tables at opposite ends of the room but overall a good day and fantastic result, there are 2 ladies who deserve player of the match and they are Kerri Barnes for some excellent pool playing and Debbi Ferris who won 4 from 4 and it was the first time she had played county this year so well done to both of them, if there was a wooden spoon prize it would go to captain Jo for one of the worst frames of pool ‘how did she loose that frame of pool, what a black!’ LOL any way lets hold on to the positives and give Kent a run for their money next month at home.

Juniors (BYE)

Surrey v Sussex 14/03/2010 (posted 19/03/10)
Mens A (Lost 25 v 19)

Once again we got off to a good start going 5-1 up and then it started to go wrong we went behind and never really caught them back up. We had lots of chances but we didn’t take them and the score line could and should have been a lot different.

Well played to Dom Ashman who was my man of the match with a four out of four. Never the less the Surrey boys did play well and they took the chances that they did get and that reflects in the score line.

Still we have to look forward to the next match away to Berkshire and hope that we can improve on the last two matches. Never the less well played to the boys and thanks for all turning up.

Mens B (Lost 24 v 20)
B Team

Our first away game at Surrey and may I say thank you lads for a strong turn out on mothering Sunday.

Unfortunately we got of to our customary great start loosing the first 5 frames before Gary Goodman (1 from 4) got us on winning ways. Great team support in a tight venue almost helped us to claw back the early deficit with men of the match Andy Healey, Gareth Milburn and Eddy Febvre (pictured) all picking up 3 from 4 and myself, Chris Dolding, Gary Knapper and Alan Roberts all picking up 2 frames.

Congratulations chaps this 24 - 20 defeat to the national champions showed a lot of promise and that as a team were heading in the right direction for the rest of this season. I look forward to seeing you all next month away in Berkshire.

Mens C (Lost 34 v 10)

Well what can I say we were on a high from last game maybe thinking that we were better than we were well how wrong we were!!

The match started with use going 13-0 down, then we won a game ,then it want bad again then we won a few frames but never enough to catch Surrey. Bottom line we never took our chances when we had them, no one played bad in the C team but then again no one played great either. We just could not take our chances when we got them .Full credit to Surrey they punished us for our mistakes.

Man of the match goes to Lee Fairclough.

Next game away to Berkshire, Heads up boys, lets hope we can learn from our mistakes & get the score we want.

Ladies (Lost 24 v 20)

An excellent turn out for our first away match, full team plus 3 reserves. The starting 11 was made up of all the new players who came through trials in January a big risk but I knew they would make an impact, the whole match was very tight we were either neck and neck or one or two frames either way it was fantastic to give Surrey a run for their money. Everyone played really well with Stacey getting 4 from 4 and Jo Kent and Sue Ashton getting 3 from 4. What can I say the ladies were BRILLIANT!! We may not have won but it was the closest score against Surrey I can remember. Player of the match goes to Stacey Hancock not just for here 4 frames but she played amazingly. Keep it up ladies look forward to seeing you all at our next match away to Berkshire.

Final score Surrey 24 Sussex 20

Juniors (Lost 29 v 15)
Ben Patterson

Unfortunately not a great result today, however, having been very far behind at half two, team spirit was up and we managed to finish with a final result of a loss 29-15. Player of the Match is Ben Patterson, for winning 3 out of his 4 frames and for his constant team spirit throughout all of Sussex Junior matches. Ben has been playing for Sussex county since 2008 and plays for a local team on a weekly basis.

Sussex v Hampshire 07/02/2010 (posted 10/02/10)
Mens A (Lost 18 v 26)
Will Ashman

Well not a great start to my first season as A team captain with a 18-26 loss to Hampshire, although the first 4 or 5 frames where shared. They then took quite a big lead by taking the 8 out of the next 10. Unfortunately no one really stepped it up a gear from Sussex and with the best individual score being 2 out of 4.

My man of the match went to Will Ashman with 2 out of 4 although he only had a break in his first 2 games and in his second two a nice dish in one and a good safety battle in the other. I can’t really take anything away from Hampshire, although they did get a fair bit of run throughout the day, never the less, well done to all the lads.

Overall not a great performance from the A team but I hope we can take this in our stride and put in a better performance at our next game away to Surrey.

Mens B (Lost 16 v 28)
Chris Dolding

First game of the season and a few new faces to the team this year but we didn't get of to the flying start we had hoped for. A few nerves and some missed opportunities combined to leave us 9 0 down before man of match Chris Dolding (pictured below) won the first of his three frames of the day to get us on the board.

Lots of credit goes out to everyone for the battling performance as we managed to keep things even from then on but even with the help of an amazing missed black giving hart Knapper his third frame of the day we still lost 28 16. Finally well played to all of you especially the new players and look forward to seeing you all again next month at Surrey.

Mens C (Won 26 v 18)
Clauidio Foshini and Lee Fairclough

A new year & a new team. A lot of new people in my team for the 1st game which was great.& what a start to the new season!!! It was great to see the team bond so quickly with full support from all players. We had a bit of a rocky start with us going 4-2 down, but then we pulled it back .It was very tight for frames from then on, with Hampshire & Sussex not giving too much away Then it got to 16-16,& the team thought this would go all the way. But then Sussex found their form & pulled off 10 frames from the last 12, to win the match 26-18. Who gets man of the match?, to hard too call with so many players playing well, Clauidio Foshini, & Lee Fairclough both got 4-4 (pictured)will share man of the match,3 other players scored 3 from 4 Jason Luxford, Brett Robertson & Aarron Smith, 3 other players got 2 from 4 Jamie Thomas, Dean Hanley, John Edmiston, Shaun Nottingham, Dan Harris, Lewis Phillips & Jon Baxter played well but the table was not with them. Shot of the match goes to John Edmiston who played a great 2 cushion escape to try to roll up behind his ball, but to find it short by a hair(unlucky mate)

Next game away to surrey see you all there, well done team!!!

Ladies (Lost 14 v 30)

Player of the match for Sussex ladies goes to Hollie Sleet who after a wobbly start came back to win 2 from 4 showing off her own great style of potting just about anything on the table from just about anywhere!

Unfortunately the rest of the team were unable to get back the racing start Hampshire made against us wining only 14 frames to their 30, but on a positive note Jo Kent didn’t drop a frame and Sue Ashton, Hollie and Sheila all got 2 frames from 4. Also I would like to take this oppourtunity to welcome our new players to the team all of who put on a great purformance for their first outing for Sussex Ladies; Stacey Hancock, Danielle Funnel, June Cameron and Laura Boyle all of whom I hope will keep coming back month after month to help Sussex build there new stronger team.

BRING ON SURREY NEXT MONTH!

Juniors (Won 27 v 17)

Shane Humphrey is Sussex County Player of the Match. Shane is in his second season for Sussex County and is 14 years of age. Shane played extremely well this month, winning two of his four frames well. Shane also plays for Newhaven conservative club and plays in teams in both Snooker and pool on a Monday and Tuesday.
