Greater London County Pool Association is holding its 2007 Open this Sunday December 9th. 11:30 registration for 12pm start. See poster for full details.
We have been informed that Rons funeral will take place next Monday 10th December 2007.
Ron had specifically written in his will that he did not want a formal service with mourners and flowers etc.
With this in mind there will be a wake in the Victoria public house Portslade where the funeral undertakers will carry out a walk by on the way to the crematorium.
The walk by has been arranged for 2 o clock in the afternoon. Rons family have provided some refreshments and would welcome all friends and colleagues to be there.
One of the projects that Ron was discussing during his last committee meeting was to raise funds to provide a pool table and equipment for a local childrens hospice.
For those that would have liked to show their respect with flowers a collection will take place for this purpose and named "The Ron Atkins Memorial Fund".

I have been informed by Rons family that the post mortem may not be until 4th December and as a consequence his funeral may not be held until at least a week later.
Ron made a will to say that he did not want a formal funeral and that he should be taken directly to the crematorium with no mourners or flowers.
Whilst his wishes will be honored we will be asking the funeral undertakers to take a small detour to the Victoria Public House where a wake has been arranged and we can wish him goodbye.

It is with great sadness for me to announce that Ron Atkins passed away last night 14th November 2007.
Ron had until last week enjoyed a full involvement as Treasurer and Team Manager of Sussex County Pool Assoc and his passing will come as a great shock for those that new him always there and always willing to help.
In Ron's early years after leaving his army career as a marine he worked as a coal miner in Wales for a number of years.
The working conditions left him with lung disease. This disease troubled him constantly and only recently received some financial compensation for the illness.
He was admitted to the Sussex County hospital last week when he found difficulty breathing and passed away peacefully in their care.
Funeral arrangements will be announced when known.

At the request of public service officials Vauxhall Holiday Park has been evacuated due to the imminent danger of severe flooding therefore all tournaments planned for the weekend of 9th to 11th November have been canceled.
