Sussex Ladies v Surrey Ladies 12th October (posted 16/10/08)

Lost 13-31
Sussex Ladies played host to Surrey for their return match of the season Sussex had a full team which included a new member Sharon Hewitt who played a full 4 frames for the first time she played well but unfortunately didn’t manage to out play her opponents. The ladies struggled to keep on the pressure against Surrey and were hoping to better their highest score against them but it wasn’t to be, they only managed 13 frames unlucky for some, however there was some excellent news for their youngest player Leah Harding who won her first frame for Sussex celebrations all round well done, this has won her the trophy for player of the match for October, Leah has attended all matches this year and her game improves each time. Let’s hope Sussex can end the season on a high and win against Berkshire away next month. Good luck to everyone in Yarmouth next month too! .

Sussex hosted the regional finals with 12 under 15s and 17 under 18s competing for their right to the national finals in Great Yarmouth 8th/9th November 2008

Following the Group stages Surrey provided 3 of the four under 18s in the play-offs with London’s Joe Prince looking to spoil their day. It wasn’t to be for Joe who played through his pain after being stung by a wasp on his big toe at least that was his excuse.  Joking Joe !!! Steven Petty beat Liam Pearson 4-1 and George Reeves beat Joe prince 4-0. Not a bad day for Steve who completed the day unbeaten.

The under 15s play offs included more of a spread after the group stages with three Surrey players , two London , two Sussex and one Kent player. London provided the performance of the day with 10year old Jasper Bacon loosing to  Peter Hazel from Sussex  4-3. A very relieved Peter who was leading the region singles said it was the hardest match of his life ! Congratulations to all named. For those not in the squads they believe they should be the squads will be reassessed after three matches so there will be opportunities for promotion during the season according to player performance.

Please make sure that all players are registered to play by signing up for the EPA card.

For those players that did not make the squads I will be happy to take notes of these for a mid season mini trial to be arranged.

Good Luck
